The Manomet Banders

Blue-headed Vireo.

We had an excruciatingly short banding week. Our only two days of banding were Monday and Tuesday before an intense coastal storm brought rain and wind to batter the coastline of Massachusetts for three days. However, we were able to band 26 new birds this week and process 24 recaptures. We also caught our 55th new species for the fall, a Blue-headed Vireo. Our season totals for the fall are now at 639 new birds banded and 532 recaptures processed.

Monday, we had the Tufts Veterinary College class visit. Luckily they were able to see several birds before winds from the south had us closing nets. Tuesday, Amy Davies’ photo club visited and while looking off the bluff we saw both a juvenile and an adult Red-shouldered Hawk fly by right after each other.
