Climate change threatens the health and biodiversity of Maine’s ecosystems. Increased temperatures, shifting species distributions, increased drought stress for plant communities and aquatic systems and amplified pest and disease outbreaks are among the potential impacts of climate change. In collaboration with the nonprofit Beginning with Habitat, Manomet has developed a vulnerability assessment document and a state-level adaptation plan for Maine. The plan focuses on adapting to temperature increases, extreme weather events and increased precipitation. This document provides wildlife and conservation biologists with a technical summary that they can use as an information resource for assessing the vulnerability of Maine’s wildlife habitats, plant communities and species to climate change, which will aid in the development of effective adaptation measures.
