For over 55 years, Manomet’s bird banding lab—one of the first in North America—has tracked spring and fall migration, banding more than 250,000 birds and gathering critical data on bird health and populations.

Each year, we must raise $325,000 to keep our critical science alive, supporting banding interns, providing outdoor learning spaces for students, and advancing songbird science.

Looking Ahead

From the first volunteers in 1966 to the legendary leadership of Trevor Lloyd-Evans, our banding lab has trained thousands of young biologists and inspired generations of students. Today, the program continues to build careers in ornithology through our seasonal internships and the Ornithology Careers Institute for early-career professionals across the Americas.

Invest in the future of bird conservation

Today, we continue to broaden the pipeline into ornithology careers through two flagship programs:

Seasonal Internships

Each spring and fall, Manomet welcomes paid interns to the Trevor Lloyd-Evans Banding Lab. These young scientists live on-site, gaining hands-on experience in mist-netting, banding, data management, and ecological surveys. Many also share their skills through educational programs, inspiring hundreds of students each season.

The Ornithology Careers Institute (OCI)

The OCI is a free, week-long intensive that brings students and early-career professionals from across Latin America to Manomet. Participants train alongside experts, build networks across the Americas, and take their first steps toward lifelong careers in bird conservation.

Your leadership gift can transform lives and accelerate conservation across the hemisphere. If you’re ready to make this kind of impact, please contact Ashley Baker, Vice President, External Relations at Manomet Conservation Sciences.

Your support ensures that the next generation of conservation leaders will take flight—and that migratory songbirds will always have champions. Join us in shaping the future of Manomet
