Donor Relations Manager

With the holiday season fast approaching, you might be thinking about how you can give back during the season of giving and which nonprofits you want to support with a year-end gift. We hope Manomet makes your list as we prepare to mark our 50th year of working to build a better, more sustainable world.

Over the past half-century, we have welcomed thousands of school children into our banding lab to introduce them to the wonder of nature and migratory birds. Perhaps you were one of these kids who visited us years ago and still keep in touch with our work!

With our 50th year (and 2019) on the horizon, we’re still welcoming kids to the banding lab and working closely with partners on the ground who want healthy forests and fisheries, clean air and water, and habitat for shorebirds. We are proud of the relationships that we’ve built and the impact we’ve had working together.

If you’d like to support Manomet with a year-end gift and help us start the New Year strong, you can make a one-time individual gift or become a Manomet Sustainer with an ongoing, monthly donation. But there are also other ways to support our work to build a better, more sustainable world and have a lasting impact on our future.

Gift of Securities

A gift of appreciated securities, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, is an easy way to support Manomet and can often provide the donor with significant tax benefits—allowing for an extra generous gift!

If you’re interested in donating appreciated securities, please contact Justin Barrett at 508-224-6521, ext. 237 or jbarrett@manomet.org for more information and transfer details.

Retirement Account Distribution

If you have a non-Roth IRA, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires you to make minimum distributions once you turn 70 1/2 years old, and income taxes must be paid on the amount withdrawn. However, the IRS allows you to donate up to $100,000 per year of your required minimum distribution to 501(c)(3) nonprofits like Manomet, and the amount donated is not subject to income tax.

If you are in a position where you don’t need all or some of your required minimum distribution, this is a great way to support Manomet and minimize your tax liability. Talk with your financial advisor or attorney to see if this approach is right for you.

Leave a Legacy

With a bequest or planned gift, you can show your commitment to leaving behind a better world for future generations and know your enduring support will have a lasting impact on Manomet and our work to build a sustainable future.

If you have already completed your estate planning, talk to your attorney or financial advisor about adding a codicil to your existing will that includes the following language:

I give and bequeath to Manomet, Inc. of Manomet, Massachusetts, the sum of $________ for its general charitable purposes; or I give ___% of my residuary estate to Manomet, Inc. of Manomet, Massachusetts, for its general charitable purposes.

Is Manomet already in your will? Please let us know so that we can recognize you as a member of our Widewater Society. If you’d like more information, please contact Cheryl Botieri at cbotieri@manomet.org.
