This month, Manomet brought on two familiar characters as permanent staff members. Evan Dalton, who has assisted Manomet with a wide range of projects in the past is working with the Climate Lab program as a Lead Science Instructor. Liza LePage, who has been working for our communications department for the last five months, is our new Digital Media Specialist.

This October, Evan Dalton joined our staff as our Lead Instructor, Science Education.  In this new position, he will be working with our Climate Lab Project which is supported by our newly acquired National Science Foundation’s $450,000 Discovery Research K-12 four-year grant.  Evan will work closely in the field with teachers and students, manage data and help develop a Climate Lab website in conjunction with our curriculum and education research partners TERC in Cambridge, MA.

Evan has been with us in many different roles over the past six years.  He has been an intern, a lead bander, educator for visiting groups, biologist at the BP oil spill, and most recently,  a part-time assistant for Climate Lab over the past two years.

Evan earned a BA in Biology at Earlham College, IN studying ornithology under Professor William Buskirk, a former Manomet Field Biology Training Program Academic Advisor and has recently completed an MS in Oganismic and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  He has also had a wide variety of jobs in ornithology and herpetology in the US and Bahamas.

On November 3, Liza LePage was hired as our new Digital Media Specialist.  Liza has come to us with many accomplishments and experiences through her work as a Project Assistant at the International Ocean Institute in Southern Africa, volunteering and interning in communication and development positions at Oceana Maine, Rails to Trails Conservancy and with the Angus King Senate Campaign.  At Bowdoin College Liza earned her BA degree in Government and Environmental Studies, with a minor in Earth and Oceanographic Sciences.

As our Communication Associate over the past five months she has excelled in making sure that all communication projects and responsibilities have continued through this transition phase, and has quickly become a valuable member of the Manomet team by working with all departments on their communication needs.

In her new position, Liza will be responsible for managing and growing our online presence, social media channels and creating tracking and reporting tools to evaluate their effectiveness. With her energy and commitment to help make a difference in our world, we are very excited to have her here at Manomet.
