Join us for an unforgettable morning in honor of World Shorebirds Day as we explore one of Plymouth’s most vibrant and ecologically rich coastal landscapes. Guided by Manomet’s Lisa Schibley, North American Coordinator for the International Shorebird Survey, and Shorebird Biologist Liana DiNunzio, this immersive walk-through Ellisville Marsh will guide you across tidal flats, a barrier beach, and a scenic coastal inlet—each teeming with life and offering a unique glimpse into the world of shorebirds.

Celebrated every year on September 6, World Shorebirds Day shines a spotlight on these extraordinary birds, the fragile habitats they depend on, and the global efforts underway to protect them. It’s a call to action for conservation—and an invitation to observe and appreciate the birds that travel thousands of miles across hemispheres, only to pause in places like Ellisville.

As we move through each habitat, Lisa and Liana will share insights into the behavior, migration patterns, and identification of the many species that rely on these coastal zones. You’ll learn how scientists track shorebird populations, why this work matters, and how you can help protect these long-distance travelers.

Whether you’re an avid birder or simply curious about the natural world, this is a rare chance to experience science in the field, connect with nature, and celebrate a global conservation movement—right here in your own backyard.

Please note: The walk will consist of uneven terrain (road, beach, marsh, etc.) and will be 2 miles roundtrip.
