Climate change poses significant threats to lands with sensitive ecological resources and the benefits that those lands provide. To demonstrate how such lands can be managed for climate change, Manomet is working with a wide spectrum of governmental and nonprofit partners to incorporate climate change adaptation into restoration efforts at the Century Bog site in southeastern Massachusetts. Manomet scientists addressed the potential effects of climate change on the site’s habitats and on the ecosystem services they provide including water purification, biodiversity maintenance and flood regulation. The site is being managed in ways which will increase the resilience of its sensitive ecological resources to climate change, and it serves as a model for incorporating climate change adaptation measures into land management.
