Patagonia contains a wide range of habitats that serve as key wintering grounds for many species of migratory, Arctic-breeding shorebirds, many of which are threatened. Patagonia became one of the three focal regions for the Shorebird Recovery Project in 2007. Manomet personnel have been working to protect habitat and reduce threats for Arctic breeding and South American endemic shorebirds by implementing the recently completed Shorebird Recovery Plan for Patagonia. Manomet supports a coalition of partners – including local governments, national agencies and multinational corporations. This project is implementing effective conservation strategies for critical habitats in one the world’s most important shorebird regions.

The plan aims to maintain and improve the health of shorebird habitats, reduce threats that are significantly degrading the health of these habitats and strengthen the capacity of key actors and stakeholders to respond to conservation needs and opportunities.
