Water resources experts from around the region gathered at Plimoth Plantation last Friday to discuss the future of water in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Featured speakers at the day long conference played to a full house of folks interested in protecting water resources.
One of the speakers, Eric Walberg of the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, talked about managing watersheds in a warming world, and said Plymouth has multiple watersheds: “We’re in the Eel River Watershed here. Adjacent to us is Beaver Dam Brook, so we’ve got a lot of small coastal watersheds here in Plymouth.”
When asked how well are these watersheds guarded against the effects of warming, Walberg replied, “While certainly there are some challenges associated with some of the previous periods of rapid growth, I think that, you know, if you think about Southeastern Massachusetts, Plymouth has really got some progressive development controls in place.”
Walberg said those in attendance were vitally interested in water resource preservation: “They’re working towards free-flowing rivers, ample water supply, good water quality.”
