On May 6th, Manomet President John Hagan will participate in a panel discussion in New York City on sustainable food production.

“Food for Thought: The (Co-) Evolution of a Sustainable Food System,” will be hosted by RBC Wealth Management and Bolder Giving. The discussion will focus on innovative and creative approaches to addressing the complex issues surrounding global food production and distribution.

Hagan will discuss the Manomet Center’s contributions to sustainability gains in dairy agriculture and the supermarket sector.

Working with dairy farmers across the country, Manomet created the Vital Capital Index for Dairy Agriculture, a first-of-its-kind tool to help dairy farmers address stewardship and sustainability issues.

The Grocery Stewardship Certification (GSC) helps supermarkets reduce their environmental footprint through continuous improvement and employee engagement. Launched by Manomet in 2012, the GSC is the only supermarket sustainability certification program in the country.

Other panelists include North Star Fund Executive Director Hugh Hogan, who will discuss the fund’s work to create more sustainable food infrastructure in the greater New York City region, and Sustainable Insight Capital Management Portfolio Manager Bruce Kahn, who will discuss investments in sustainable agriculture. The discussion will be moderated by Arline Segal of RBC Wealth Management.
