Chiloe Island, located off the southwest coast of Chile, supports large populations of Hudsonian Godwit and Whimbrel, but contaminants from petroleum shipping lanes, habitat disturbance from people and dogs and the impacts of climate change are adversely affecting these populations. Manomet is working to implement effective habitat conservation at this vital site by serving as the backbone organization for local and international stakeholders. Through education and the establishment of better monitoring procedures for both Whimbrel and Godwit, we hope to reverse negative population trends.
