Assistant Director, Shorebird Habitat Management

Manomet’s Habitat Management Team collaborated with the Provincial Organization for Sustainable Development(Organismo Provincial para el Desarrollo Sostenible, OPDS), The National Scientific and Technical Research Council(Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, CONICET), the National University of Mar del Plata(Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata), the Argentine Wildlife Foundation (Fundación Vida Silvestre), and the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network to host a Shorebird Ecology, Conservation, and Habitat Management Workshop in San Clemente del Tuyú, Argentina in March 2017.

The workshop focused on discussions and field visits around the conservation needs of the nearby Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site of Bahía Samborombón. The thirty-four workshop participants represented multiple important shorebird sites, agencies, and organizations in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil. Bahía Samborombón provided a platform to discuss shorebird conservation needs in a broader context because the local threats to shorebirds, including human disturbance from kite surfing and beach driving, are present at many sites that are important for wintering and migrating shorebirds in North and South America.

During the workshop, local news channel Canal 5 interviewed workshop leaders. http://www.canal5sanclemente.com.ar/taller-de-ecologia-conservacion-y-manejo-de-habitat-de-las-aves-playeras/
