In a world where environmental issues are polarizing and confrontational, Manomet’s contribution to sustainability stands apart.
For nearly 40 years, Manomet has worked to build a sustainable world based on healthy natural systems that support human and wildlife populations. We have a leadership role in creating a sustainable planet, bringing together stakeholders—communities, individuals, universities, government agencies, and businesses—to develop cooperative, science-based solutions that work in the real world.
Our commitment to achieve a more sustainable world recognizes that the natural systems that both people and wildlife depend upon are being impacted as never before by stressors such as climate change, pollution, sprawl, habitat loss, increased consumption of natural resources and many other issues. Through Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences’ major initiatives in Climate Change, Natural Capital and the Shorebird Recovery Project, we are addressing these enormous challenges.
Our Climate Change Initiative focuses on adaptation and mitigation strategies for human communities and wildlife habitats. In Manomet’s Natural Capital Initiative, we are helping in the stewardship of nature’s goods and services like clean water and air, trees, soil and open space. And we are leading one of the most ambitious and extensive approaches to hemispheric, large-scale wildlife conservation through our Shorebird Recovery Project.
Manomet plays a special dual role in pursuing a sustainable planet. First, we convene relevant stakeholders with many different interests to chart a vision of the future they seek to create, a sustainable future. Second, we bring technical knowledge to bear on helping people take action on the future they seek to build. This special combination of both “convening” and “solving”, and being respectful of the many diverse and legitimate interests in natural resources, enables us to create enduring solutions to sustainability.
Our members take pride in knowing they influence an innovative vision of sustainability. We invite you to learn more about becoming a member of Manomet.
