Shorebird Biologist

Liana DiNunzio

Liana joined Manomet’s Resilient Habitats program as a Shorebird Biologist in 2023. She is working to expand migratory shorebird research and conservation in eastern Massachusetts. Her work focuses on improving our understanding of how shorebirds use the Massachusetts coast during migration in order to guide conservation efforts. An important component of her work is building a network of partners in the region, particularly on Cape Cod, to collaborate on these initiatives and improve stopover habitat for declining shorebird species.

Before joining the Manomet team, Liana was involved in many aspects of the environmental field including research, education, ecological restoration, wildlife rehabilitation, permitting, and habitat management. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of Rhode Island, where she focused on wetland ecology. She is excited to apply her diverse skillset to protect shorebirds on the Massachusetts coast.

Liana is based out of Plymouth, Massachusetts where she can be found birdwatching, exploring the many local ponds and conservation areas, and spending time with her family.
