Join Cullen Brown from the Mississippi Ornithological Society and co-leader Duncan Fraser of Manomet Conservation Sciences for two shorebird walks in central Mississippi this August.

During fall migration in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley (LMAV) shallow water and mudflats are often scarce, and catfish farms can be a great place to find these conditions and the shorebirds that use them. Phillips Catfish Farm annually provides multiple drained ponds that support thousands of migrating shorebirds and other species, and is one of the premier shorebirding sites in inland Mississippi

Shorebird Field Trips at Phillips Catfish Farm

Participants will meet at the Walmart Supercenter in Yazoo City (2129 Grand Ave, Yazoo City, MS 39194) and caravan together to Phillips Catfish Farm.

Phillips Catfish Farm is one of Mississippi’s premier inland sites for observing shorebirds during migration. The ponds also attract a variety of other birds, including waterfowl and wading birds. Because access to the property is restricted, these organized field trips offer a special opportunity to bird this important hotspot.
The end time is flexible, and participants may leave the site whenever they wish.
