Arne will highlight the vital importance of this region for shorebird populations, the threats these birds face—including hunting pressure and habitat loss—and the incredible work being done to build awareness, support local conservation, and protect these globally important coastal wetlands.

The webinar will also spotlight recent efforts towards regional conservation planning. In 2024, Manomet initiated the development of a regional conservation plan for Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana through a participatory process with key stakeholders and multi-sectoral regional partnerships. This Green Coast Shorebird Conservation Plan will be a product based on the best scientific, traditional and local knowledge.
