Bequests

The Widewater Society

To ensure that Manomet’s special brand of conservation science will continue to create on-the-ground solutions to environmental problems, we are inviting you to join the “Widewater Society,” by making a bequest to Manomet.

The purpose of the Widewater Society is to encourage you to put Manomet in your will or estate plan.  Making a bequest to Manomet is an easy process that will benefit conservation for years to come.  If you have already named Manomet in your will, or you would like to know more about the process, please let us know by contacting Sue Chamberlain at (508) 224-6521 or by e-mail at schamberlain@manomet.org.

The Widewater Society will meet once a year for a dinner on the bluff at the Center in Manomet Massachusetts to hear a special presentation by one of Manomet’s senior scientists, and to review Manomet’s work in general.  (The “old” house on the bluff was called “Widewater” by the Ernst family—whose vision and support led to Manomet’s founding—hence the name!)

There are so many things about the future that we can’t influence.  Making a bequest to Manomet provides an opportunity to ensure that your commitment to conserving the natural world will be sustained.

Please call Sue Chamberlain at (508) 224-6521 to discuss any questions you might have about the possibility of including Manomet in your will or estate plan.

To add a bequest to Manomet in your will is very easy.  We offer the following Bequest Language sample as a guide.

Bequest Language

For many donors, a bequest is a statement of the values they have cherished most during their lifetimes.  Bequests can be made in the form of a specific gift of cash or property or a percentage of an estate.  The latter allows more flexibility in planning.

You may restrict your gift but please first speak with Sue Chamberlain, schamberlain@manomet.org,  so that your wishes will be carried out in the best possible way.

Manomet’s counsel has approved the following language for unrestricted bequests for Manomet:

I give and bequeath to Manomet, Inc. of Manomet, Massachusetts the sum of ($________) Dollars  for its general charitable purposes; or

I give (____%) of my residuary estate to Manomet, Inc. of Manomet, Massachusetts, for its general charitable purposes.

Please note: To name an additional beneficiary to a will, it is not necessary to rewrite the entire will.  A simple codicil can add the gift while leaving the rest of the will unchanged.
