Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences
A World of Science Doing a World of Good

Be Part of the Solution

Rachel Carson said she could not enjoy the song of the Wood Thrush unless she had done all she could to help it survive. And, of course, she changed our world—and theirs—for the better.

The Shorebird Recovery Project faces a huge challenge. This is one of the most ambitious and extensive approaches to large-scale wildlife conservation ever. We have the strategy, the science, the partnerships, and the experience to continue to make a difference.

Now we need you.

$1.5 Million Challenge

There has never been a better time for you to get involved. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has recognized the importance of saving our shorebirds. They not only think it can be done, but they have invested $750,000 in the Shorebird Recovery Project in the form of a 2:1 challenge grant.

This means that Manomet must secure $1.5 million in support to match their pledge by the end of 2009. So, please join WHSRN partners, Manomet, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and all concerned people across the Western Hemisphere who care about these valuable birds.

To support the Shorebird Recovery Project and our efforts to protect threatened species, contact us at 508.224.6521 or schamberlain@manomet.org.

“I may never in my life see a Polar Bear or a Mountain Gorilla, but it is important to me that they exist. I want our grandkids to be able to imagine countries far from their own, to imagine or maybe someday visit Tierra del Fuego or Baffin Island, Canada. I want them to be inspired by how a bird, no bigger than a dove, can shrink the Earth to a size that brings people together instead of dividing us. That for me is ultimately what the Shorebird Recovery Project is about.”

-Charles Duncan,
Shorebird Recovery Project Director
