Manomet works with famers to maintain or expand well-managed rice fields and crawfish ponds that can replace lost natural habitat for shorebirds.
These outreach efforts also focus on reducing or eliminating the use of agro-chemicals that are toxic to shorebirds.
The conversion of working wetlands to uses incompatible with shorebirds is a major population threat. This project provides healthy (if anthropogenic) habitats in regions and seasons where shorebirds most need them.
