Climate Change Initiative
Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences has launched a major new initiative aimed at answering many of the urgent impact and adaptation questions raised by a changing climate. Building on our expertise in working with ecosystems and their services, migratory wildlife, and natural resource stakeholders, we are addressing urgent questions about how climate change will affect the Northeastern United States.
There are two intertwined approaches to addressing the planetary problems raised by climate change: mitigation and adaptation. Manomet has active climate change projects in both of these areas.
MITIGATION strategies involve trying to minimize the amount of warming the earth experiences over the next century by reducing the amount of greenhouse gases we put into the atmosphere.
ADAPTATION strategies help us cope with the warming that we know will occur over the next century as a result of our past and predicted emissions of greenhouse gases.
Current Manomet Climate Change projects include:
- Conservation Strategies for Climate Change Adaptation
- Solutions for Energy Needs and Wildlife Protection
- Mitigating Climate Change with New England’s Forests
- Community Climate Action Plan
- Climate Change and Aquatic Environments: Impacts and Adaptation Strategies for Birds
