Summerfest 2010 at Manomet

Friends and supporters of Manomet recently gathered on the bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay for Summerfest 2010. The event was an opportunity for spotlighting Manomet’s work and to thank those who generously ensure Manomet’s ongoing mission.

The event began with mid-afternoon presentations regarding Manomet’s three major initiatives and their projects. Manomet President John Hagan welcomed attendees and spoke about Manomet’s relevance to society as a trusted leader in bringing science-based, collaborative solutions to many of the enormous challenges society is facing today. Initiative directors and staff followed, sharing highlights of their work on a range of activity from a woody biomass energy study making major national headlines—to Manomet’s science at work on the Gulf oil spill—to new approaches and partnerships for dealing with a changing climate.

At the conclusion of the initiatives presentations, John Hagan stepped forward to strike-up the entertainment—the Maine-based “Swampdonkeys” band, which included one of Manomet’s own senior scientists, Dr. John Gunn on the banjo. The crowd was treated to several rousing songs while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, drinks and conversations among friends.

A barbecue dinner followed the reception, with a delicious variety of summer-themed foods and homemade desserts. A high point of the evening was a moving tribute to Paddy Wade, who is stepping down from her role as Chairman of Manomet’s Board of Trustees.  Former Manomet President, Linda Leddy, spoke of Paddy’s legacy, noting the Chairman’s significant contributions to Manomet in so many ways, and credited her for the organization’s path to growth and success throughout the years. Paddy was given a photo collection of her journey with Manomet upon which she expressed her appreciation and enthusiasm in being part of Manomet’s evolution. Dean Steeger has been voted Manomet’s new Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and he shared his thoughts and ideas on his new role.

As one of the Nation’s oldest non-profit environmental research organizations, Manomet is dedicated to conserving natural resources for both humans and wildlife. Through science and public engagement, Manomet works to integrate society’s social, economic, and environmental values to create sustainable systems for present and future generations. Manomet’s headquarters are in Plymouth, Massachusetts, but it also has offices in Maine, Vermont, and Chile.
