The Manomet Center is hosting a Washington D.C. reception today with two U.S. senators to celebrate and support the recently drafted Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Conservation Plan. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Ben Cardin of Maryland will speak at the May 10th event, which will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Russell Senate Office Building.The Conservation Plan is the result of a wide-reaching collaboration between dozens of conservation groups, scientists, federal and state officials.

Manomet's bi-annual magazine -- Partnerships for Sustainability -- is now available online.

Selected content from the magazine will be posted two weeks after Manomet members receive their copies in the mail.

This first edition includes Manomet President John Hagan explaining why biomass energy is not immediately carbon neutral, an exploration of climate change impact on New England and an interview with Shorebird Recovery Project Director Charles Duncan about the benefits of international cooperation.

Two senior Manomet scientists were featured in a climate change series this week on public radio station WCAI.

Senior climate change scientist Hector Galbraith and Banding Director Trevor Lloyd-Evans both appeared in the series, which was produced by WGBH/WCAI science reporter Dr. Heather Goldstone.

Galbraith spoke about climate change impact and adaptation. Lloyd-Evans spoke primarily about climate change impact on birds.

Every two years, the Manomet Center presents an award of USD $2,000 to an individual or organization from Latin America that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to shorebird conservation. The award honors Pablo Canevari, a former director of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network.

Canevari, who passed away in 2000, is remembered for his extraordinary dedication to the conservation of shorebirds.
