Shorebird populations are in trouble, with new data painting a grim picture for the continued existence of several species in the Americas. Shorebirds are important and emblematic in their own right, but they also serve as flag-bearers and indicators for broader biodiversity issues. Manomet’s Shorebird Recovery Project serves as a “backbone organization” for a variety of shorebird research, conservation and recovery efforts. Manomet enables dozens of other actors to have a collective impact at an enormous geographic scale. Manomet and partners focus efforts on site-based conservation, building the science foundation and the use of explicit success measures. Manomet staff operate the executive office of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network (WHSRN) and co-lead the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group.
